 Flight attendants at a large U.S. airline are training other flight attendants  to recognize signs of human trafficking on international and domestic flights. The flight attendant leading the program says it's  possible to catch traffickers in the act, saving the lives of women and children trapped in the net.

Safe House for Sex Trafficking Victims Opens in San Diego

 MAUREEN CAVANAUGH (Host): I'm Maureen Cavanaugh. You're listening to These Days on KPBS. Prostitution is sometimes called a victimless crime. But the people who work with young women and men who've been sexually exploited have a very different story to tell. Law enforcement has identified San Diego as an international gateway city for sex trafficking and one of the 13 cities in the nation with the highest incidence of child prostitution. 

A new safehouse has opened in San Diego to provide long-term support for young women who are the victims of sex trafficking. We'll talk about the new facility and the ongoing effort to crack down on sex trafficking in San Diego.

Volunteers try to dissuade young sex workers on Super Bowl weekend

(CNN) -- Volunteers are taking to the streets of Miami, Florida, this Super Bowl weekend to inform teenage girls of alternatives to working as prostitutes.

Just as Miami's hotels, restaurants and retail stores are seeing a bump in business for one of the biggest sporting events of the year, law enforcement and social service agencies say they are also witnessing a spike in trafficking of underage sex workers.

Ann Arbor, Michigan (CNN) -- "We did not have a right to choose where we lived ... freedom of speech, or freedom of actions. The traffickers had keys to our apartment. They controlled all of our movement and travel. They watched us and listened when we called our parents. They didn't let us make friends or tell anyone anything about ourselves. We couldn't keep any of the money we earned. We couldn't ask anyone for help." -- Lena
